The Newark Valley Central School District is excited to announce the launch of Cardinal Connections, a brand-new digital newsletter designed to bring the community closer together. This newsletter will serve as a central hub for school district and community events, offering a convenient way for residents to stay informed and connected. Whether it's school performances, activities, or special events, Cardinal Connections will provide information about everything happening in and around Newark Valley.

Superintendent Message

Superintendent Message- Social Media Threats

Dear Newark Valley Families,

We are writing to address an important matter that has come to our attention: There have been several non-credible threats to local schools. Newark Valley has not received any threats specific to our school to date. However, threats—whether intended as jokes, pranks, or something more serious—pose significant risks and have serious consequences for our community. They cause unnecessary fear, disrupt the learning environment, and divert critical resources from both law enforcement and school personnel.

It’s important to understand that the safety of our students, staff and school community is our top priority, and making threats against a school is a crime. Whether these threats are made directly, implied, or shared by forwarding posts from others, they are taken seriously by law enforcement and can result in criminal charges.

Legal and Criminal Consequences

Students who make or share threats face legal consequences that can include:

- Arrest and criminal prosecution.

- Permanent records that could affect future educational and employment opportunities.

- Suspension or expulsion under our district’s Code of Conduct.

The Role of Parents

We ask for your support in speaking with your children about the seriousness of this issue. Even a vague or "joking" threat can have far-reaching consequences. We urge you to regularly monitor your child’s social media use and encourage them to report, verbally, to a trusted adult, school staff, or law enforcement any troubling content they may see online. Remind them that forwarding or reposting a threat, even if they were not the original creator, can still make them accountable under the law and school policies.

See Something, Say Something

If your child sees or hears something that concerns them—whether in person or online—please encourage them to report it immediately to a trusted adult, school staff, or law enforcement. Reporting concerns can help prevent potential incidents and keep our schools safe.

Through awareness, education, and open communication, we can prevent these incidents and ensure that our NVCSD schools remain safe spaces for learning. We thank you for your partnership in this effort and for reinforcing the importance of responsible behavior, both in person and online, with your child.

If you have any questions or need further information about how to talk to your child about this important issue, please do not hesitate to contact your school principal or counselor.

Sincerely,

Timothy M. Calice

Superintendent of Schools

NV Offers FREE Meals to Students for 24-25

We are excited to announce that the Newark Valley Central School District will once again offer free meals to our students through the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs in the 2024-2025 school year!  All enrolled NV students will receive breakfast and lunch each school day at no cost to you.  No further action is required for you to participate in these meal programs.

While we are able to provide meals for each student in our district, we kindly ask that all families complete an income application.  The application is kept confidential and your participation in this process helps our district qualify for additional funding that supports various educational initiatives and resources.  Without the data from these applications, the district will not qualify for other funding sources.  You can find the income application here: https://www.rockoncafe.org/Downloads/2024-25%20NV%20CEP%20Application.pdf

Students will still need to pay for snack items, ice cream, and extra food, as just breakfast and lunch are covered in the above mentioned programs.  Funds can be added for these purchases using an EZSchoolPay Account.  More information about EZSchoolPay can be found here: https://www.rockoncafe.org/Downloads/EZSchoolPay2022-2.pdf

Cash or check can also be used in the school cafeteria to add funds without the online convenience fee.

Menus and more information about RockOn Cafe Food and Nutrition can be found on our district website under Departments → Food Services here:  https://www.rockoncafe.org/newarkvalley_home.aspx

We thank you for your continued support!
