NVCSD Reopening Rules and Regulations

Dear Families, Students, and Staff:
As we welcome our children back to school, please note below the summary of rules and regulations, as dictated by Governor Hochul, and the New York State Health Commissioner. These regulations were released on 9/3. Please also note that these are not locally developed mandates. They are regulations ordered by New York State.
Masks required indoors regardless of vaccination status
Masks required on all school transportation
Masks can be removed for eating, playing instruments, singing. 6 ft. of distance should be maintained as practicable, but distancing requirements should not interfere with the ability of students to attend full-time, in-person instruction.
When masked, students should maintain social distancing of at least 3 feet when practicable.
All public school faculty and/or staff who are not fully vaccinated will be required to undergo testing for COVID-19 on a weekly basis, and provide proof of a negative test result on a weekly basis.
"Close contacts" with someone with COVID must quarantine unless they are fully vaccinated and asymptomatic. Vaccinated, asymptomatic individuals must wear a mask at all times indoors for 14 days from exposure, or be tested 3-5 days after exposure, and present a negative result. Students who were within 3-6 feet of an infected individual, where both students were properly masked, are not considered close contacts.
As always, students and staff who are sick or displaying symptoms associated with COVID-19 should not come to school.
Thank you for your support and understanding as we work to keep up with, and abide by, the constantly changing rules and regulations surrounding this pandemic. We would have obviously liked to have had this guidance earlier in the summer, but the contents and timing are simply not under our control.
We are, and will continue to, do everything we can to keep the focus on the education of our students. It is our mission to do so, and we will continue to adjust as best we can to the circumstances that are thrust upon us.

Respectfully,
Ryan Dougherty
Superintendent of Schools
