This fall seven teams at Newark Valley were named Scholar-Athlete teams by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association. To qualify as a Scholar-Athlete team, 75 percent of a team’s roster must have an average GPA of 90 or above. Congratulations to the following teams: Boys Cross Country, Boys Soccer, Field Hockey, Football, Girls Cross Country, Girls Soccer and Girls Volleyball. In New York NYSPHSAA recognized 3,444 Scholar-Athlete teams and 46,549 individuals. In total 632 schools across the state participated in the Scholar-Athlete program.
“We would like to congratulate our student-athletes and member schools,” said Dr. Robert Zayas, NYSPHSAA Executive Director. “We are extremely proud of this program which recognizes the student-athletes who excel in the classroom. We continue to see what hard working and dedicated student-athletes we have in New York each season and this shows how much NYSPHSAA student-athletes are committed to their education.”
