NTH Elementrary Students Kick Off Read Across America Week with Tri-Cities Opera Performance

On Friday, February 28, Nathan T. Hall Elementary kicked off Read Across America Week with a special performance from the Tri-Cities Opera of “The Ugly Duckling”. Students from UPK up to 3rd grade were able to enjoy the show, focused on encouraging an interest in reading and storytelling for the upcoming Read Across America Week at NTH.

Nationally, Read Across America Week is celebrated from March 2 to 6. The week begins on the birthday of beloved children's author, Dr. Seuss. The National Education Association (N.E.A.) aims to encourage reading and educate people about its benefits, especially among children and young adults. Events are organized across the nation by schools and organizations to promote the same.

Next week, students will be taking part in special spirit days to celebrate books and learning,  which will feature fun ways to encourage reading throughout the school. Students will have the opportunity to win a free book at the Spring Book Fair by reading books throughout the week.

For students who want to participate in the spirit week, this is the upcoming schedule on how to dress up:

Monday, March 3 - Wear crazy socks or mismatched clothes.

Tuesday, March 4- Dress in your favorite vacation clothes (sunglasses, hats, etc.).

Wednesday, March 5 - Wear a shirt with words on it.

Thursday, March 6- Dress like your favorite book character.

Friday, March 7- Wear your favorite comfy clothes or PJ's.
