Congratulations to Newark Valley’s Kayla Malarkey who took 12th in what was just her third pentathlon at the New York State Track and Field Championship in Middletown, N.Y. She would collect a pair of top-five showings in the process, placing fourth in the 100 hurdles (17.55 seconds) and fifth in the shot put (28-1 1/2). Her shot put heave was a personal best in pentathlon competition.

The Cardinals’ Marissa Silba also competed at the state championship and ran the 2,000 steeplechase.
