NV Recognized as School of Excellence by NYSPHSAA
Congratulations to all of our Cardinal student athletes and coaches. For the second year in a row, Newark Valley was named a School of Excellence by the New York State Public High School Athletic Association. This prestigious award recognizes our athletes’ academic success. To be considered for this distinction, at least 75 percent of our district’s varsity programs must have qualified for, and received, the NYSPHSAA Scholar-Athlete Team Award during the 2017-2018 school year. The purpose of the School of Excellence award is to unite varsity coaches in challenging their teams to achieve a statewide honor. This year only 111 schools across the state earned the School of Excellence Award.
NYSPHSAA Executive Director, Robert Zayas said that the number of schools who have received the School of Excellence Distinction has increased by 51 since last year.
“This is evidence that schools, administration, coaches and student-athletes focus on excellence in the classroom as well as the playing fields,” Zayas said.
The School of Excellence Award began in 2016-2017. All awards are sponsored by Pupil Benefits Plan.
