Newark Valley Central Schools News Article

Update from Superintendent 6/24/24

Dear Newark Valley Families,

As we continue to process the tragic events of this week, I want to provide you with additional information and updates. It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that Newark Valley High School Senior Connor Vanzile was killed in this weekend’s car accident.

Connor was an exceptional young man who touched the lives of many in our school community. He will be deeply missed by his classmates, teachers, and all who knew him.

Connor was not only an outstanding student but was very dedicated to the electrical program he participated in through BOCES. Connor was also a compassionate friend and a dedicated member of our school community. His bright smile, positive attitude, and willingness to help others made a lasting impact. Whether in the classroom, on the sports field, or participating in extracurricular activities, Connor embodied the spirit of Newark Valley High School.

As we come to terms with this profound loss, our thoughts and prayers are with Connor’s family and friends. We extend our deepest condolences to them during this incredibly difficult time. No words can adequately express the sorrow we feel for their loss.

In light of this heartbreaking event, we will be holding a candlelight vigil for Connor on Wednesday, June 26, from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. on the high school campus. This will be a time for us to reflect on the joy and light he brought into our lives and to celebrate his achievements and contributions to our school. We invite our entire Newark Valley Community to attend and share their memories at the event.

We would also like to extend our thoughts and prayers to the other students who were involved in the car accident. We hope that they are able to heal quickly and have a full recovery.

We will continue to provide counseling and support services to students, staff, and families. We are committed to supporting our community through this difficult time. We are stronger together.

Sincerely,

Tim Calice

Superintendent NVCSD
