BAE Systems Engineers Teach 7th Graders About Electromagnetic Engineering

Seventh-grade science students at Newark Valley received a hands-on lesson in electromagnetic engineering on Friday, Nov. 8, thanks to two special visitors from BAE Systems.

Jack Miller and ZeYu Chen, engineers at BAE Systems, joined Ashley Frantellizzi’s science classes to share their expertise and experiences. The volunteers began by providing students with an overview of their educational backgrounds and career paths, highlighting the importance of teamwork in engineering to maintain the high quality of their work.

Miller and Chen then led students through an interactive activity, guiding them step by step in building a magnetic tower. The activity connected to a real-world application, as the engineers explained how their designs must ensure there is no interference with a plane’s control systems.

“The students were engaged and asked great questions,” said Frantellizzi. “It was an exciting opportunity for them to see how classroom concepts apply to real engineering challenges.”

The visit was a success, leaving students with a better understanding of how science and engineering come together to solve complex problems. Thank you, BAE Systems, for your continued support in inspiring the next generation of engineers.
